9th Annual “Southern’s Art Extravaganza: A Georgia Southern and P-12 Partnership” Opening Sunday
Nearly 50 pieces of art from 16 schools partnering with COE are showcased this year in the 9th Annual Southern’s Art Extravaganza: A Georgia Southern and P-12 Partnership opening Sunday, November 11, at 2 p.m. The schools are in Bulloch, Bryan, Effingham and Laurens counties.
Featured artists in the show were selected by a certified art teacher from schools partnering with Georgia Southern College of Education. According to Dr. Thomas Koballa, COE Dean, the COE Alumni Advisory Committee created the annual exhibit in 2003 as a way to showcase student art and highlight the work of certified art teachers, many of whom graduated from Georgia Southern.
Sen. Jack Hill (R-Reidsville) will be on hand to congratulate each artist as he has since the inception of the artist showcase. A strong supporter of the arts in schools, Sen. Hill said “I believe art and music have such a positive effect on students and not just in developing talent but in the rest of their lives.”
This year’s guest speaker is Jessica Burke from Georgia Southern’s Art Department. There will be a reception after the students receive certificates of appreciation.
