Notes on advanced degrees for certificate upgrades:
• While recent legislative action restricted salary increases for "Unused Leadership Degrees" (see HB455/923 guidelines), the new Georgia PSC rule impacts upgrades in all other advanced degree fields.
• Graduate students electing to seek advanced degrees under the old PSC certificate upgrade rules must have been enrolled (admitted and actively participating in coursework) in advanced degree programs on or before July 15, 2011, and successfully complete the degree program by the following dates -- Master’s completed by Dec 15, 2014; Specialist completed by Dec 15, 2014; and Doctoral completed by Dec 15, 2016. Individuals meeting this Grandfathering timeline will be upgraded under the old rules.
• In the fields of Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Technology, and Teacher Leadership and only in these fields, the certificate upgrade grandfathering period will be extended until January 15, 2013, for existing programs offered by in-state or out-of-state institutions. All candidates enrolled by January 15th, 2013, must complete all Master's or Specialist degree program requirements by September 1, 2015.
• For full details, see the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certificate Upgrade Web page.
