Course Sequence

The course sequence in Curriculum Studies begins each summer. Students who are pursuing the Ed.D. in Curriculum Studies must begin taking classes in the summer.  

Prerequisites, if needed, should be taken as early as possible in the program. This may mean taking three courses for the first three semesters in the program. Registration holds are placed on students’ accounts for the Power and Schooling in the Spring semester in the program to allow advisors to oversee timely completion of prerequisites

At this point in the program students move into their elected strand in the doctoral program. Students taking the Curriculum Studies Strand should take those courses identified below as CS Strand. Students taking The Teaching & Learning Strand should take those courses identified below as T&L Strand.

Advanced Seminar in Teaching & Learning (T & L Strand)

Contemporary Curriculum Theorists (CS Strand)

Students continue taking concentration area courses and electives until coursework is completed.  

Students should consult with their advisor prior to registering for courses every semester.

Educational Statistics I (CS Strand)

Educational Statistics II OR Advanced Qualitative Research (T&L Strand)

Continue with electives/Concentration courses

Educational Statistics I and prerequisite courses offered each semester

Students continue taking elective and concentration courses under the direction of their permanent advisor, until the POS is complete.

Completion of Coursework –  Dissertation Phase

Candidacy Exam –  Register for dissertation hours, EDUC 9999, if all coursework is complete.

Dissertation – EDUC 9999

Register for dissertation hours in the section listed with your dissertation chair.
