*International Learning Community Conceptualization:

The ILC was conceptualized as a partnership among US and UK universities and their partner schools to effect school improvement through:

1. Improving the effectiveness of initial and in-service teacher training as well as training of paraprofessionals.
2. Increasing social inclusion by further developing teaching strategies that lead to greater involvement and achievement of low achieving groups.
3. Improving the involvement of the home and local communities.
4. Improving standards of literacy, numeracy, vocational training, and citizenship/character education through the use of a systematic comparative approach.

Potential activities of the ILC include:
collaborative school improvement efforts, faculty exchanges (public school and university), student exchanges (undergraduate and graduate), curriculum development/reform, and collaborative research.

The International Learning Community Chart illustrates the model visually.
