Barbara Mallory, Ed.D.

General Background:

Dr. Mallory worked for thirty-one years in public schools in North Carolina, as an English teacher, media coordinator, assistant principal, associate principal, and principal. Her career as an educator in high schools provided a practitioner’s understanding of schools that work. For two years, she was on-loan to the State Department of Public Instruction as an assistance team leader, serving in various schools as a school improvement specialist. During her career as a high school principal, she maintained a close relationship with East Carolina University. After living in Greenville, North Carolina, and Morehead City, North Carolina, for most of her career, she is now living in Statesboro, Georgia. Dr. Mallory has one daughter who lives and works in Washington, DC.

Professional Interests:

Dr. Mallory’s major interests are the principalship and school improvement. Having worked with schools in a professional learning climate, Dr. Mallory’s focus is now teaching in the school leadership program. Dr. Mallory has a continuing interest in developing successful leaders for schools and understanding the conditions of student achievement and success. Her dissertation study dealt with the teachers’ perceptions of the principal as an instructional leader and the relationship to student achievement. She also has enjoyed the focus on high school reform, making rigor, relevance, and relationships the keys to successful schooling for students in 9-12 settings.

Professional service:

Dr. Mallory serves as a member of the College of Education Elections Committee. She also has been involved in Relay for Life for the past fifteen years, and she will continue her team membership in Statesboro. Dr. Mallory has also agreed to serve on numerous dissertation committees in service to the candidates in the leadership program.
