Robert Martin, Ed.D.
Associate Professor: School Psychology
Georgia Southern University
Dr. Martin serves as coordinator of school
psychology preparation at Georgia Southern University. More than
four hundred graduate students have completed preparation as school
psychologists at Georgia Southern University during his tenure as
coordinator. Nearly all of these have remained in school psychology
throughout their careers with over eighty percent serving Georgia’s
public schools.
While serving as coordinator of school
psychology, Dr. Martin has served as chair or acting chair of three
academic departments in the College of Education. His service at
Georgia Southern University has included membership and chairmanship
of many University, College and Departmental Committees. Dr.
Martin has served on and chaired statewide committees on school
psychology preparation, evaluation of school psychologist knowledge
and skills and special education needs and preparation in Georgia.
Dr. Martin served as Chief School
Psychologist and Coordinator of Student Personnel Services for the
Lancaster (Ohio) City Schools before arriving in Georgia. He served
on the Executive Board of the Ohio School Psychologists Association
(OSPA) and on the committee which founded the National Association
of School Psychologists. He served as president of the Central
Ohio School Psychologists Association.
Dr. Martin’s academic preparation includes the
Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in School Psychology
from The Ohio State University. His preparation has involved many
distinguished faculty such as Donald C. Smith (founding editor of
the Journal of School Psychology) and Donald Bersoff (noted author
on ethics and law in psychology and attorney for the American
Psychological Association).
Dr. Martin has investigated, published and
presented a variety of topics including assessment of Attention
Deficit Disorder, persistence in mathematics achievement,
assistance to children with learning and behavior problems and
prevention of violence in schools. His current research interests
include exploring the parameters of attention and concentration in
children and establishing developmental norms for
attention/concentration.
