M.A.T. Early Childhood Education

Program Links
What background do I need?

This study concentration is for candidates who already hold a bachelor’s degree and who are interested in a career as a teacher of young children. The M.A.T. provides an option for people entering the world of teaching from other vocations or fields of study, and is also an option for those who are already in the classroom yet have not obtained initial certification (e.g. paraprofessionals, Teach for America, etc.). Through a sequence of courses and related field experiences, candidates will be prepared to teach young children in preschool through grade five.

During the program, you will be required to complete student teaching or a teaching internship. (Some concentrations require practicum placements prior to the student teaching or internship semester) The public school sites for student teaching or internships must be within a sixty (60) mile radius of Georgia Southern. An exception is made for students in the online MAT Concentration Three in Special Education and the MAT Concentration Five in Early Childhood Education; your placement will be considered in the region in which you live.

What certification will I be eligible for upon completion of this concentration?

Successful completion of the M.A.T. and passing scores on the appropriate GACE Content Assessments and edTPA will lead to eligibility for T-5 level certification.

*Admissions are closed for Summer 2017. Please contact us for information about the next application cycle.*
