Professor of Mathematics/Mathematics Laboratory Coordinator

Salary: 2008-09 minimum is $40,199 commensurate with credentials and experience plus excellent fringe benefits. For education beyond the Master's, the starting range may be higher. New hires are allowed 1% for each year of directly related teaching experience for academic areas and 1% for each year of directly related occupational experience for vocational areas up to a total of six years.
Duties/Responsibilities:
TYPICAL DUTIES: Teaching Responsibility and Grant Duties:
ò Recruits, trains, supervises, schedules, coordinates part-time tutors and staff.
ò Monitors daily operations.
ò Develops and maintains documentation systems to include evaluation and redesign.
ò Reviews progress with students and makes recommendations as appropriate.
ò Assists with the development and implementation of innovative math strategies.
ò Serves as resource person to faculty and staff concerning learning assistance resources.
ò Attends division meetings and committees as appropriate.
ò Collects and maintains data related to grant activities.
ò Teaches 15 equated load hours/semester (to included material and preparation time û see re-assigned time in summary of function for first 2 years); develops and grades exams and instruments to evaluate student learning and progress; submission of student grades/progress as required by the programs/policies of the Learning Services.
ò Maintains a minimum of 5 office hours/week/semester load and direct interaction with students in a formal learning environment for a 15 equated load hour schedule.
ò Remains current in his/her discipline, updating course content when appropriate. Maintains standard syllabus/outline for each course, in accordance with program/procedures. Updates course syllabus/outline annually.
ò Working with Associate Deans and departmental faculty, develops and implements processes and tools for assessment of teaching and student learning outcomes incorporating appropriate methodologies and technology.
ò In collaboration with colleagues and the Director of Program and Assessment review and under the guidance of the Dean/Associate Dean, develops a system for evaluation of teaching and learning including course competency expectations and student outcome measures.
ò Working with the Associate Dean, incorporates results of assessments to modify instruction and materials in general education.
College Responsibility:
ò Collaborating with Associate Deans and departmental Faculty, Coordinator of Curriculum and Articulation, and Coordinator of Curriculum and Diversity, identifies student-leaning outcomes; develops assessment processes and tools; incorporate results to enhance/modify instruction and material, degree program, course cluster, and/or certificate program as appropriate.
ò Working and coordinating with Student Services and the Dean/Associate Dean, actively participates in student recruitment, retention, and advisement activities and programs.
ò Participation in institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, task forces, club sponsorships, facilitation of advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and associate faculty. Participation may be directed by Associate Deans, Deans, or the Vice President for Learning Services.
ò Maintains 10 positive interaction hours per week. Attends graduation ceremonies.
ò Working with the Associate Dean, and the Director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE), serves as a resource for faculty members.
Community Responsibility:
ò Participates in professional developmental activities outside the College, such as but not limited to, community events, boards, clubs, and conferences. Coordinates such participation with the Associate Deans, Deans, Vice President for Learning Services, Faculty Liaison, CTE as appropriate.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Masters Degree in Mathematics or Masters Degree in related field with 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics. A minimum of two years' experience teaching Latino and low-income students. Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college. Demonstrated sensitivity to needs of students, faculty and staff from diverse and multi-cultural backgrounds. Completion of EDU 250 û The Community College within two years of initial employment, or transcript indicating successful completion of similar course at another college. Preferred: Teaching experience at the community college level; Bilingual (English and Spanish); Supervisory or administrative experience; grant project. Continuation of the position contingent upon grant funding. The position will work according to the faculty schedule and will receive a regular 9 month faculty contract and a supplemental contract for the summer.
