Duties/Responsibilities:

Adams State College invites applications for the position of Director of Developmental Education. We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual who loves teaching and shares our dedication to students from diverse educational backgrounds. This 10-month, exempt administrative position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of all aspects of developmental education on the campus. Among other duties, the Director will:

ò develop schedules for all developmental classes;

ò teach one to two courses per semester in the developmental studies program as necessary;

ò hire, orient, and supervise instructors;

ò provide effective leadership particularly as it relates to planning, evaluation, and assessment efforts in the developmental program;

ò work closely with individuals and campus programs on retention and initiatives focused on student success;

ò supervise the Grizzly Testing and Learning Center;

ò oversee the Structured Transitional Academic Year (STAY) program û a new program aimed at increasing the success of underprepared freshmen û and supervise the coordinator of the STAY program.

Requirements:

Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate. Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in an academic discipline. The successful candidate must have a minimum of three years college teaching experience in a developmental studies program in addition to administrative experience. Preference will be given to applicants with:

ò demonstrated experience, success, and a strong commitment to developmental education and student-centered instruction;

ò excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

ò demonstrated organizational and managerial capabilities;

ò graduate work in English, mathematics, or an area closely tied to developmental education;

ò additional training and/or advanced study in developmental education.
