Instructor of Developmental Reading

Salary: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications, education and related work experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Contractual duties require fifteen semester hours of teaching in developmental reading per semester.
2. Participating in departmental meetings and meeting other contractual obligations is required.
3. Participating in course development, assessment, committee service, and planning activities is expected as the need arises.
4. Willingness to teach at other campus sites as needed is expected.
5. Commitment to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college is expected at all times.
6. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's Degree in Reading, Developmental Education, or Adult Literacy is required. A minimum of 15 semester hours of graduate coursework in adult reading instruction is also required.
2. Teaching experience at the collegiate level is required; experience at the community college level is preferred.
3. A minimum of one year of experience in teaching developmental reading to adults is required.
4. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
5. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students is desired.
6. Experience with students who are non-native speakers of English is desired.
7. Bilingual background is desired.
8. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality processes, accreditation processes, and committee service is desired.
9. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction is required.
10. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
