Assistant Dean of Developmental Education

Salary:  $77,160 commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits

Duties/Responsibilities:

Westchester Community College, the largest educational institution in Westchester County, seeks a leader in the field of Developmental Education to coordinate the planning, policies, and procedures of the developmental education program. Under the supervision and direction of the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Developmental Education will guide the faculty, coordinators and administrators who provide instruction and services to developmental students by strengthening policies, practices and plans for future development. S/he will ensure comprehensive educational services are provided and enable all serving within the population, on campus and at the extension sites, to synergize their efforts and articulate their vision. The Assistant Dean will coordinate strategic planning efforts to create short term and long range goals (i.e. budget, staff, and other resources). S/he will conduct and analyze research and compile reports, collaborate with the assessment office to ascertain the effectiveness of developmental education on campus, and seek and secure funding for developmental education through government, corporate, and private funding sources. The Assistant Dean will support professional development opportunities and oversee the work of assigned staff. S/he will also establish and maintain active partnerships with officials at other colleges and with key community leaders.

Requirements:  

The successful candidate must possess a Master's degree or above in Developmental Education or a related academic discipline. S/he must possess at least five years experience in educational programs and three years experience in an administrative position with a developmental student population. A strong background in teaching and administering developmental studies is highly preferred. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the administration of education and training programs and grants is required. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of administrative supervision and decision-making is also required. S/he must have the ability to identify problems, formulate, and implement realistic solutions as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships. Analyzing and evaluating reports and studies are required. The successful candidate must possess the ability to evaluate the performance of assigned personnel and programs.
