POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Currently reporting to the Dean of the School of Education (the President\'s designee), the Chair is responsible for the overall administration of the SEEK Department, which has the mission of assisting talented and motivated students whose academic record does not reflect their full potential and need academic and financial support in order to be successful in college. In addition to the responsibility of administering the functions and services vested in the SEEK Department, the Chair will also monitor all SEEK funding, facilitate support programs and services provided by various College departments to SEEK students, and advocate for and represent SEEK students from admission to graduation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
ò Administer a comprehensive academic student support department aimed at meeting the needs of approximately 675 enrolled students consistent with the guidelines provided by The City University of New York.
ò Supervise, plan work assignments, and evaluate the SEEK counseling faculty and academic support staff.
ò Oversee, expand, and evaluate the counseling and academic support services offered by the SEEK Department.
ò Act as a liaison with the College community.
ò Coordinate with the Special Programs Office of the University.
ò Oversee and evaluate all SEEK Department data.
ò Administer and monitor the SEEK Department budget.
ò Maintain all SEEK Department records.
ò Generate reports required by the College and University.
ò Engage in actively recruiting, providing orientation and advising all new and continuing SEEK students.
ò Other related duties as assigned by the Dean including: managing the day-to-day activities of the department (hiring, supervising, developing and evaluating professional and support staff); working with the Financial Aid, Bursar\'s, Admissions, and Registrar\'s Offices on a regular basis to ensure that proper records are maintained and appropriate services provided to SEEK students; ensuring proper verification of students\' status and program eligibility; working with academic departments that offer sections in which SEEK students are enrolled, and in the development of supplemental instruction sections; facilitating the recruitment, course scheduling and provision of support services to summer immersion SEEK students; preparing annual program and budget reports to the University Office of Special Programs; and representing the Department internally and externally, including serving on appropriate Department, School, College and University committees.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must hold the relevant doctoral degree with a record of scholarship and experience appropriate to holding tenure in an academic department, including but not limited to Education, Psychology, and/or Social Work. He/she will have a comprehensive understanding of opportunity programs and be committed to the success of students eligible for opportunity program support; grant writing experience; the ability to judge trends and appreciate the implications of data; and demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff at every level. Knowledge of counseling, tutoring and support services is essential. The candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. At least six years of relevant administrative and/or supervisory experience required, as well as experience working with urban and diverse college students. Experience in TRIO or other opportunity programs a plus.
