Basic Function: Academic Advisor Liaison (AAL) centralizes and coordinates the collegeÆs efforts to support the success of academically at-risk traditional age students. The AAL is a knowledgeable guide who provides students with options, facilitates connections, and offers advice about how to maximize the benefits of college support services. The AAL provides personal support and guidance for those who have been conditionally admitted, readmitted; those on academic probation, in other academic trouble, or in need of additional academic support. Working in conjunction with Admission, Campus Life (Counseling, Residential Life, and Student Health), faculty advisors, the First Year Center, the Learning Commons, and Multicultural Education, the AAL serves as a link between faculty advisors and these student support services. As a first stop for faculty who are concerned about a studentÆs progress, the AAL provides individual, direct, and practical academic guidance, but not course selection, for selected students and organizes learning teams and other approaches for student support when appropriate. In addition, the AAL supports the Learning Strategies component of the student success initiative by teaching a Learning Strategies course each semester.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Works with Admission and the First Year Center to prepare support services for selected incoming traditional students.
• Identifies additional students that would benefit from academic support services by administering a three-week survey of faculty teaching first year traditional students and traditional students on academic probation.
• Communicates regularly with hall directors about students with sporadic class attendance and poor academic work issues and formulates appropriate support strategies.
• At the beginning of semesters, reviews course schedules of selected student population in conjunction with faculty advisors.
• Assists in organizing and overseeing mentoring program for students on probation.
• Provides direction for students needing Learning Commons services such as peer or professional tutoring services.
• Establishes regular times to check in with selected students about their academic progress.
• Confers with classroom faculty and faculty advisors about selected student progress.
• During the fall and spring breaks, assists in writing mid-semester concern letters to students and, when appropriate, parents and participates in meetings to support students with problematic interim grades.
• After winter break, contacts returning traditional students on academic probation to review schedules and identify concerns that need to be discussed with faculty advisors.
• Provides guidance during summer break for selected traditional age students enrolled in summer school.

Master's degree in an appropriate field with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
