Developmental Biology Instructor

Duties/Responsibilities:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Teaches lecture and laboratory portions of developmental-level anatomy and physiology, which students take prior to taking curriculum-level anatomy and physiology. Duties include lecture and laboratory preparation and delivery, grading of papers, completion of required college paperwork, course development, meeting with students as needed, test preparation, and preparation of other class materials, advising students, committee service, and other general college duties. Teaching load is 18-21 contact hours with week with additional office hours to complete 30 hours per week on campus. Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend courses.

SKILLS:

Ability to work with students of varied and diverse educational backgrounds and levels of preparation. Ability to provide instruction that addresses various student-learning styles. Must be able to utilize various media formats and provide students instruction in utilizing the Internet to complete class and laboratory assignments. Ability to develop Internet modules and courses desirable. Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a departmental team to provide quality instruction within mutually established departmental standards. Must be able to work safely in a laboratory setting and provide student instruction and supervision in laboratory safety. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, follow College rules and regulations, and meet work deadlines.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Individuals selected for interview will be asked to provide student evaluations of previous class and laboratory instruction. During the interview process, candidates will be asked to conduct a brief class session and will have an interview with a selection committee. Finalists for the position are subject to a criminal background check.

Qualifications: 

Minimum of master's degree in biology or closely related field with 18 graduate hours in biology from an accredited college or university is required. Documentation of completion of the master's degree is required. Additional work experience in the health care field is highly desirable.

Prefer two years full-time teaching experience preferably in the community college setting. Additional work experience in a health care field is desirable.
