Executive Director, Developmental Education

Salary:  $69,000-$94,000 Annualized

Duties/Responsibilities:

SUMMARY

The Executive Director for Developmental Education, working directly with faculty and the Associate Deans responsible for Math and English disciplines, provides leadership to ensure the accomplishment of the College's goal to improve the performance of students in Developmental Education.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership and support to the faculty to explore and implement effective strategies for improving student performance and retention

Works with Associate Deans to assign faculty to teach Developmental Education courses and schedule courses

Collaborates with Directors of the Learning Centers to insure that the services provided in the centers support the needs of Developmental students

Collaborates with the Director for Faculty Professional Development to ensure that faculty development workshops, seminars and presentations are provided that support the work of those teaching Developmental Education

Works with the faculty to develop and implement a review cycle for assessment and placement processes to ensure the effective use of placement testing

Supports faculty in their outcomes assessment work for the Developmental Education curriculum

Researches and recommends, to the VP for Student Success, policies and procedures to improve the performance and retention of Developmental Education Students

Works with Planning and Institutional Effectiveness to collect and analyze data related to the performance of students placing into Developmental Education

Works with Workforce Solutions to support the transition of students requiring Developmental Education into the College\'s credit programs, including those students in the ABLE/GED programs

Serves on the Student Success Council, a body that considers policies, initiatives and resource issues associated with student retention and performance

Serves as the College\'s lead in Achieving the Dream as it continues to participate as an Achieving the Dream \"Leader College\"

Supports the development of grant applications for additional funding to support Developmental Education initiatives in collaboration with faculty

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in Developmental Education, Higher Education Administration, Education, or related area

Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience administering developmental education or similar programs in an educational setting

Demonstrated success in working with faculty teams to develop and implement successful strategies around Developmental Education

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build consensus among various groups of counterparts

Evidence of successful teaching and curriculum development experience

Demonstrated knowledge of the current state of the Developmental Education field

Demonstrated expertise in cognitive psychology and learning theory

Demonstrated knowledge of the particular educational needs of developmental students in an urban setting

Experience with the use of technology in support of student learning

Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population
