Learning Specialist

Duties/Responsibilities:  

Work with the Director of the Learning Center (LC) to provide direction, leadership, and vision for the learning support services of all the students utilizing the LC. Teach three credits in a departmentally related developmental course (AHD 1102). Provide comprehensive developmental academic advising to a caseload of Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Academic Opportunity Program students. Provide administrative direction, oversight and delivery of LC programs; individualized and group programming for the educational development of underprepared students; programming and testing accommodations, in collaboration with the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities, for the learning disabled; programming for academically reinstated and academic probationary students and training and supervision of graduate assistants.

Requirements:  

Minimum requirements: an earned Masters in Education, Special Education, English, Developmental Educational or related field from a regionally accredited institution and an earned Reading Specialist certification. Additional requirements: minimum of three years, full-time experience providing academic support to students in a secondary and/or postsecondary(preferred) setting; demonstration of teaching effectiveness, and academic advising effectiveness; evidence of a commitment to understanding diverse populations and developmental education; working knowledge of IDEA, ADA, Section 504 Regulations, assessment of services and programs and experience offering academic accommodations in a higher education(preferred) and/or secondary education setting. Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written); experience providing reading and study skill support to underprepared students at the secondary, or postsecondary level or college-level teaching experience; evidence of effective interpersonal skills and experience in presenting workshops. Experience working collaboratively with administration, faculty and staff, and completion of a successful campus interview. Preferred: doctorate degree and experience in academic advising and working knowledge of TutorTrac« (or similar software).
