Faculty, Developmental Studies--Writing
Lone Star College--North Harris, TX
Salary: Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience. This is a 9 or 10.5 month contract.
Duties/Responsibilities: Teaches full range of developmental writing courses.
Works collaboratively with other faculty, staff, departments and divisions on student success and retention efforts and special events.
Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
Develops and utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
Advises students in academic matters.
Provides timely, quality access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods.
Evaluates students by a variety of means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress.
Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
Maintains professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development activities.
Actively participates in department, college, or district meetings and/or committees.
Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs including day, evening, weekend and off-campus classes, as needed.
Other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Masters degree in rhetoric, composition theory, applied linguistics, English, education, or language arts.
Recent coursework in composition theory and research.
Experience working with developmental students.
LSC-Online certification or a commitment to obtain certification through Lone Star College System within 12 months of employment.
Start Date: August 2009
