Duties/Responsibilities:
The Learning Support Center (LSC) comprises a staff of experienced, professional tutors and coordinators of specialized programs. The LSC also includes an active cohort of around thirty student (peer) tutors. The Director works collaboratively with the staff to tutor, mentor, and nurture Norwich undergraduate students.
Description:
Direct the University's learning support services, which include individualized academic services for students and specialized services for students with disabilities. Plan, develop, and implement programs and policies; manage the budget. Hire, train, and supervise a staff of 9 to 10 (6 FTE). Supervise and coordinate services for students. Provide individual tutoring and skill assessment. Consult with LSC staff, family members, outside agencies, and others in support of students. Assist with faculty development, admissions, and retention programs. Serve on university committees, councils, and task forces. Consult in areas of professional expertise.
Requirements:
Master's degree and three to five years experience that includes supervision of professionals providing academic services for students are required; a doctorate in a relevant discipline is preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred. Must have specialized knowledge in the fields of academic support, developmental education, and services for students with learning and other disabilities and related federal regulations, particularly in higher education. Must have knowledge of the philosophy, structure, and function of post-secondary education; of academic skill assessment; and of student admissions, transition, orientation, and retention issues. Must have a solid working knowledge of teaching and mentoring, academic and personal advising, and crisis intervention and referral counseling. Effective leadership, administrative, communication, supervision, and problem-solving skills are essential.
