Student Teaching Checklist
Two Semesters Before Student Teaching
One Semester Before Student Teaching
- Review the important dates for student teaching. Note the deadline for the application submission.
- Obtain the student teaching application from the Student Teaching Experience website.
- Complete the application within the third and fourth weeks of the semester. Please be sure the autobiographical sketch is of extremely high quality work. Schools receive this component of the application and you want to make a very good first impression.
- Electronically submit ALL application forms on the same date so they are received together. Applications MUST be submitted on time. Late applications will not be processed.
- A Criminal Background Check must be completed by the deadline to apply to student teach. To complete a criminal backround check, go to Certified Background.com and
click on Applicant Instructions. Completing a crimninal background check after the deadline to apply to student teach will prevent your application from being processed.
- Consult with your academic advisor. Register for student teaching.
NOTE: STUDENT TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE MAILED BY THE LAST DAY OF EXAMS. ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE MAILED TO YOUR UNIVERSITY MAILING ADDRESS AND PERMANENT HOME ADDRESS LISTED ON YOUR STUDENT TEACHING APPLICATION.
Semester Break Before Student Teaching
- Upon receipt of your student teaching assignment, contact your Clinical Supervisor immediately.
Your initiative in contacting your Clinical Supervisor demonstrates your eagerness to get started
as well as your ability to act responsibly.
- Arrange a visit to the classroom. An early visit enables you to begin to develop a relationship with the students as well as the
Clinical Supervisor. It can also relieve anxiety you may have about the experience.
- Review the date and time for the Student Teaching Orientation and exit meeting.
- Be aware of the required first day in the student teaching assignment. Check with your
Clinical Supervisor about arrival time.

Please realize that changes at student request are impossible. In contrast,
placement changes may be necessary and made by the Office of Undergraduate Teacher
Education when clinical supervisors move, assume new responsibilities, etc.
Student Teaching Semester
- Purchase and review the Guidelines for Student Teaching/Program Packet and the Evaluation Forms packet.
- Attend Student Teaching Orientation. DO NOT BE LATE.
- Submit a copy of your Praxis II scores at the Student Teaching Orientation.
- Arrive EARLY for your first day in your student teaching assignment. DO NOT BE LATE.
- Review deadlines established by the University Supervisor and the Clinical Supervisor
for assignments. Plan appropriately to meet deadlines. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.
- Adhere to established deadlines. DO NOT SUBMIT LATE WORK.
- Monitor your progress. Utilize your strengths as you improve other areas.
- Attend the Eagle Expo/Education Career Day. Meet representatives of different school systems from Georgia as well as other states. Dress professionally and bring multiple copies of your current resume.
- Complete required evaluation forms. Submit forms to your University Supervisor.
- Attend the Student Teaching Exit Meeting and complete certification documents. DO NOT BE LATE.
- Be available to meet with your University Supervisor during final exam week.
