Why secondary teaching?

Do you enjoy engaging young minds in science and mathematics-inspiring future generations?

Secondary teachers have the opportunity to shape the minds of adolescents in exciting and creative ways, making a real difference in their lives beyond graduation.

Secondary education degree at Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern’s bachelor’s degree in secondary education will not only teach you the skills you’ll need to manage a classroom, plan a curriculum and engage your student, it will also give you practical hands-on training in area middle and high schools, where you can learn to apply your skills first hand and get career-ready before graduation.

Our program offers innovative approaches to student learning such as year-long residency. Completed with a partner school during your senior year, yearlong residency often allows you to work with the same teacher who will serve as your mentor in the field. School partners participating in yearlong residency have provided positive feedback, saying that student teachers gain valuable experience by becoming more integrated into the school. All field experiences, including student teaching, take place within a 60 mile radius of the Georgia Southern campus. Explore more of the program outcomes.
