The M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning is designed for individuals who currently hold initial certification in a teaching field, or who are interested in the Instructional Improvement Concentration which does not lead to teacher certification. (Note: Individuals seeking initial certification and those who hold a non-renewable (NR) teacher certification, should pursue the M.A.T. degree requirements rather than this M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning.)
For this M.Ed. degree program, a student selects one of six concentrations based on his/her educational background and career goals. Each concentration requires completion of a 36 hour program of study.
Concentration One: Middle Grades Education (4-8)
for candidates who hold a Professional Level Four Certificate or equivalent in Middle Grades Education.

Concentration Two: Secondary Education (6-12)
for candidates who hold a Professional Level Four Certificate or equivalent in one of the following certification areas: biology, geology, chemistry, physics, English, mathematics, technology education, business education, history, geography, political science, economics, social science, science.

Concentration Three: Special Education (P-12)
for candidates who hold a Professional Level Four Certificate or equivalent in Special Education or candidates with a Professional Level Four Certification in a teaching field other than Special Education if prerequisite course work is completed.

Concentration Four: P-12 Education (P-12)
(Not accepting new students for P-12 education. )
for candidates who hold a Professional Level Four Certificate or equivalent in Spanish or French.

for candidates who hold a Professional Level Four Certificate or equivalent in Early Childhood Education.

for candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree from a regularly accredited institution and who are interested in an advanced degree in education that does not lead to teacher certification.
