Process for Evaluating Full-Time Faculty
(Tenure-Track, Non-Tenure Track, and Temporary)

All full-time faculty in the Department of Teaching and Learning--Full-Time Tenure Track, Full-Time Non-Tenure Track, and Full-Time Temporary--are evaluated annually in the Spring Semester. Faculty in the Department of Teaching and Learning are evaluated according to the policies and procedures outlined in the Georgia Southern University Faculty Handbook, Section 200.

The department also follows the university policies and procedures for Pre-Tenure Review, Post-Tenure Review, and Recommendations for Tenure and Promotion outlined in the Georgia Southern University Faculty Handbook, Section 200.

Process: for Conducting Annual Faculty Evaluations:

In January each year, all full-time faculty members submit to the Department Chair a description of their accomplishments from January 1, ___to December 31,_____. Accomplishments must be organized in terms of Teaching, Scholarship, and Service. Faculty accomplishments in each of the three areas are based on the faculty member's goals established the year before. Goals are evaluated in terms of measurable accomplishments. Goals must be aligned with the four Commitments in the College of Education Conceptual Framework, the mission of Georgia Southern University, and the mission of the departmental program in which faculty members are assigned for their major responsibilities. Faculty members must provide an analysis of their progress in meeting their goals, how these goals have been measured, and plans for future goals.

The Chair reviews the materials and composes a written evaluation of the faculty member's accomplishments in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service. These written evaluations are distributed to the individual faculty members for a review. Faculty members schedule a conference with the Chair to discuss the evaluation and establish goals for the next year. Prior to the conference, faculty members may attach additional information pertaining to their accomplishments.

Prior to the conference, all tenured faculty in the department also review the accomplishments of the non-tenured faculty, provides an analysis of the faculty member's progress toward tenure and/or promotion, and shares their recommendations with the Chair. The Chair shares this information with the non-tenured faculty members at the time of the conference. At the end of the conference, the faculty member and the Chair sign the evaluation which indicates that the evaluation has been completed and shared with the faculty members. These evaluations are placed in the faculty members file and used to make decisions about merit increases, recommendations for tenure and/or promotion, and recommendations for continued employment.
