MAT Early Childhood Education program now accepting applications

Beginning Summer 2017, the College of Education (COE) will offer a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Early Childhood Education. This fully-online program will focus on culturally relevant and asset-based pedagogy for P-5 learners and is designed for those looking to change careers or who currently work in the school system but are not certified to teach. Once successfully completed, this program will provide graduates with a master’s degree and initial certification to teach in grades Pre-K through fifth grade in Georgia. Applicants are not required to have previous education experience or degrees but must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

The MAT in Early Childhood degree program requires 45-48 credit hours, which includes 900 clinical hours to meet certification requirements. Coursework is fully-online, however, students must complete field experiences and student teaching in the area where they live. MAT candidates are also encouraged to attend on-campus Student Teaching Orientation and edTPA information sessions their final semester of the program in order to prepare for the certification exam.

Applications are now being accepted for the MAT Early Childhood degree program, and the priority deadline to be considered for the first cohort in Summer 2017 is March 1, 2017.
