Can I complete the concentration online?

Yes, the MAT Secondary Education concentration is offered as on online program.

Please note that during the program, you will be required to complete field experiences including student teaching/internship. All field experience requirements for any M.A.T. program must be completed in the state of Georgia. Some concentrations require practicum placements prior to student teaching or internship semester.  Field experiences for the M.A.T. Concentrations in Secondary Education or Middle Grades Education can occur anywhere in Georgia if you are the teacher of record. If you are not a teacher of record, student teaching will take place within a 70 mile radius of the Georgia Southern University Statesboro or Armstrong campus.

This online Secondary Education program is designed for Candidates who already hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and meet content requirements for one of the following concentrations:

  • Biology
  • Broad Field Science
  • Chemistry
  • Economics
  • English
  • History
  • Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Political Science

What certification will I be eligible for upon completion of this concentration?

Upon successful completion of all program requirements and passing the appropriate GACE exam, you will be eligible for Georgia T-5 Secondary Education Certification (grades 6-12) in one of the following teaching fields: biology, broad fields science, chemistry, economics, English, geography, history, mathematics, physics, or political science.

The program is a CAEP accredited, Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved program that is recognized through reciprocity in many other states in the U.S.
