M.Ed. in Middle Grades Education – Program Mission & Outcomes
The mission of the Master of Education in Middle Grades Education is to prepare teachers in grades 4-8 who effectively design student-centered curriculum for diverse young adolescents through the incorporation of research-informed instructional strategies; collect, interpret, and apply assessment data to advance student learning; and critically examine their classrooms through research-based reflective practices to deepen their knowledge and expand their pedagogical skills.
Throughout the program, candidates participate in research related to addressing the needs of diverse learners, implementing high academic standards, developing school and community partnerships, effectively integrating technology into instruction, and applying research-based instructional strategies in the classroom. Program goals and expectations are derived from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, the Association for Middle Level Education, and the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Council (InTASC) standards.
The Master of Education in Middle Grades Education supports the college’s mission of developing lifelong learners and the university’s mission of providing challenging learning experiences that promote inclusive practices for diverse student populations and support collaborative efforts with regional educational institutions and schools.
