Teaching with Disney

Julie C. Garlen, Ed.D., associate professor of early childhood education in the Department of Teaching and Learning, co-edited with Jennifer A. Sandlin, Ph.D., of Arizona State University, a book entitled Teaching with Disney (Peter Lang, 2016). The first comprehensive volume on Disney as cultural pedagogy and classroom praxis, the book explores the ways in which the powerful messages of Disney shape the way we teach and learn.

Garlen and Sandlin are also the editors of the Disney, Culture, and Curriculum (Routledge, 2016), which examines the ways that Disney operates as a cultural curriculum to inform understandings of race, class, gender, sexuality, and consumerism.
