Katz presents with colleague at NYAR Conference
Anne Katz, Ph.D. (right), assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum, Foundations and Reading, presented with Vivian Bynoe, M.L.I.S., a reference and instruction librarian at Georgia Southern University, Armstrong Campus in Savannah, at the National Youth-at-Risk Conference held in Savannah March 4-6.
During the presentation, “A Teaching-Learning Grant Initiative: Developing the Critical Literacy Instructional Abilities of Pre-Service Educators,” Katz and Bynoe shared the results of an internal teaching and learning grant that allowed them to introduce the concept of critical literacy to pre-service educators. Throughout the course of the semester, students were provided with the opportunity to apply their knowledge of this framework through a series of discussions around the young adult novel, Does My Head Look Big in This? (Abdel-Fattah, 2008).
