Lesley Roessing, director of the Coastal Savannah Writing Project, and Patricia Wachholz, Ed.D., professor in the Dept. of Elementary and Special Education, presented a session titled, “Studying September 11th: Using Novels and Other Media Interdisciplinary Unit,” at the Associate of Middle Level Educators (AMLE) Middle Grades Summit held in Honolulu, Hawaii in February. Roessing and Wachholz offered a variety of resources for exploring the important events of September 11, as well as strategies that can be used to create other units of study through young adult and adolescent literature. Young adult authors Wendy Mills, Tim Rogers and Gae Polisner joined the session virtually to discuss their books. Pictured are six attendees and Roessing (third from right) who received autographed copies of September 11 novels.
