Fayth Parks, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development, gave a presentation at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Rockville, MD. The Scientific Briefing was organized by the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR), Behavioral and Social Sciences Section. Parks’ topic was HIV and Rural Health. Disproportionately affecting rural communities, the opioid epidemic has hidden casualties such as outbreaks of HIV and HCV infections among people who inject drugs. The OAR coordinates the scientific, budgetary, legislative, and policy elements for the NIH HIV research portfolio.
