Barrow publishes research on use of photoblogs as classroom tool

Elizabeth Barrow, Ed.D.

Elizabeth Barrow, Ed.D., assistant professor in the Department of Middle Grades and Secondary Education, was published in the March/April 2019 edition of Social Education. The article, “Every Picture Tells a Story: Teaching the Past with Photography,” describes the use of photoblogs in the social studies classroom to help generate students’ interest in using images to convey messages while teaching important media literacy skills.

Barrow concludes that the use of photoblogging provides social studies teachers with an opportunity to engage students in historical inquiry in a meaningful and relevant way, offering opportunities for content acquisition, production completion, and process knowledge.
