Remote learning article by Hodges named magazine’s most-read in history, receives APEX award

Charles Hodges, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Leadership, Technology and Human Development, has received numerous accolades and attention from around the globe for an his remote learning article published in EDUCASE.

The article, “The Difference Between Emergency Remote Teaching and Online Learning,” was published in EDUCASE Review on March 27, 2020, and was one of the first breaking articles during the pandemic to address online and remote learning practices from a planned and unplanned viewpoint.

The APEX Awards, given annually for publication excellence, recognized Hodges and his fellow authors with an Award of Excellence in the category of “COVID-19 Media-Newspaper/Magazine Articles.”

“With nearly 1,200 entries, competition, as always, was exceptionally intense,” wrote APEX Awards Executive Editor Ken Turtoro. “100 Grand Awards were presented to honor outstanding work in 13 major categories, with 471 Awards of Excellence recognizing exceptional entries in 100 sub-categories.”

EDUCASE Review revealed that Hodges’ article is currently the most-read in the magazine’s history with approximately 500,000 page views as of early September.
